NORTHWESTERN HOSPITAL

This project involved the design of a state-of-the-art medical complex which will house a 526 bed, one million square foot hospital, and a one million square foot medical office building. The medical office building will be developed jointly with the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation (NMFF) Group Practice. The outpatient facility will include clinic and office space for approximately 400 physicians.

Johnson & Lee served as Associate Architects on the overall design team. As a member of the project team, our service included architectural and interior design; and medical space planning, for several diagnostic and treatment areas within the facility; such as, Clinical Cardiology Nuclear Medicine, Radiology, Rehabilitation Services, and Neurosciences.

Johnson & Lee also provided architectural services for the planning and design of a new 11,700 square foot outpatient Breast Imaging Center located on the thirteenth floor of the Medical Office Building at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Center will provide breast imaging services to include screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound and biopsy localization. One of the main objectives of the client was to diminish the “clinical/sterile” perception for patients, by creating a more aesthetically pleasing space. Our goal was to design a space that would clearly separate patient and staff flows by creating a plan that isolates technical activities and support areas from patient view.
