NORTHERN TRUST BANKThe Northern Trust South Financial Center is a 15,000 square foot, community-banking facility located on Chicago’s South side. Visible from the Dan Ryan expressway, the building’s clock tower increases its visual presence to commuters. With over one hundred thousand cars traveling the expressway daily, the facility itself becomes a billboard touting the services Northern Trust has to offer. Situated in Chicago’s "Bungalow Belt", the facility’s prairie style aesthetic is derived from the residential architecture surrounding it. The west and south elevations employ long overhanging eaves, as well as loggias to mitigate solar gain from the afternoon sun. The first level is used primarily for banking purposes. The second floor is comprised of a community meeting space and a two-story gallery overlooking the first floor. Building materials consist of steel frame construction, glass curtain wall, E.F.F.S., masonry and a standing seam metal roof. |
