WEST HUMBOLDT PARK COMMUNITY CENTER

The West Humboldt Park Community Center was completed in 2000. This facility provides social services and health services to the residents of the neighborhood.

The large triple height entry serves as a focal point for the building and as a gathering space for community events. The two wings of the facility house classes, a health facility, social service offices and job training programs.

The total construction budget of the project was 4 million dollars. The owner expressed a desire for a prairie style aesthetic hence the hip roofs, and the long over hanging eaves with brackets. Parking for this facility was placed in the rear so the building could be sited close to Chicago Avenue. From an urban design standpoint, its siting enables the building to bolster the street fabric of Chicago Avenue.
