NORTH KENWOOD - NEW HOMES FOR CHICAGO

Winner: Distinguished Building Award,
American Institute of Architects 1997.
These award-wining homes have helped spur the redevelopment of the North Kenwood neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side.

The project was based on a program to design an affordable single-family house. Twenty-five homes were built for Thrush Development between 1996 and 1997. The project was supported by the Urban League and by Bank of America. Total construction costs were 2.5 million dollars.

“Their solution was to provide a modern interpretation of two time tested traditions in local residential architecture: use of an oversized element on the facade to add grandeur to a modest dwelling, and a design that accommodates future expansion by the owner.”
